Okay.

The Blacksmithing quests in WoW are SICK.

Observe:

The Art of the Armorsmith

To become an Armorsmith, you must make the following items and return them to Grumnus: 4 Ornate Mithril Helms, 2 Ornate Mithril Boots, 1 Ornate Mithril Breastplate.

  • Ornate Mithril Helm (4)

  • Ornate Mithril Boots (2)
  • Ornate Mithril Breastplate

Description
So ye made the smart decision.

There ain’t no love lost betwixt me an old Ironus here. That good for nothing toy maker knows who the true craftsmen round here be.

The truly great wars are won with a good defense. When it be go time, no offense is gonna be helping ye out.

Right, so let’s get to work. All ye need to do is show me that ye’ve got some raw talent. After that, I’ll yank whatever impurities be left in ye and mold ye into an armorsmith. Ye do know how to make ornate mithril, don’t ye?

Actually, I don’t. I didn’t think much of it at the time, so I continued trying to get the quests that I knew I could get.

I found the blacksmithing dwarf in Stranglethorn Vale (lolDorf) and he gave me the following quests:

Smelt On, Smelt Off
Bring forty Mithril Bars and forty Iron Bars to Galvan the Ancient in Stranglethorn.

  • Iron Bar (40)

  • Mithril Bar (40)

You will receive: Plans: Ornate Mithril Pants

The Art of the Imbue
Bring forty Mithril Bars and four Citrines to Galvan the Ancient in Stranglethorn.

  • Mithril Bar (40)

  • Citrine (4)

You will receive: Plans: Ornate Mithril Shoulder

The Great Silver Deceiver
Bring forty Mithril Bars and five Truesilver Bars to Galvan the Ancient in Stranglethorn.

  • Mithril Bar (40)

  • Truesilver Bar (5)

You will receive: Plans: Ornate Mithril Gloves

HOLY CRAP THAT’S A LOT OF METAL. Now, these are for other ornate stuff, not the ornate stuff he wants at the top. Is the rest going to be this bad?

*looks it up*

  • I need to make the pants in order to complete the quest for the boots.

  • I need to make the shoulders in order to complete the quest for the helm.
  • I need to make the gloves in order to complete the quest for the breastplate.

…..

OH. MY. GOD.

…..

HOLY SHIT THAT’S 120 MITHRIL.

No, wait… I need 222 Mithril Bars on top of that to make the stuff in the first place.

HOLY SHIT THAT’S 342 MITHRIL!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

And there’s no way in hell I can afford all that, so I’m going to have to mine it myself…

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

God, I actually feel sick… why did I even think I could do this…

Lissiria: “You don’t like being called by your true name? Some would consider it an honour to be able to wield the power of the Black Pearl… do you consider your heritage a curse?”

Tabar grits his teeth angrily, resting one hand on the haft of his hammer.

Tabar: “I came here… to put an end to all this talk of heritage and legends. Now you’re getting in my way, and I’m losing my temper.”

Lissiria: The ground under her breaks up, and a gigantic golem climbs out from below; the illusionist leaps up and perches herself on the construct’s shoulder, smiling down at the three.

Lissiria: “It’s all part of the game… but I think I’ll keep calling you Gemma… I can tell it drives you nuts.” ^^

One huge problem that I’m encountering is that boss fights are taking forever. Even once we switch to d20 (next week?), I can’t see things going any faster, since I’d be describing stuff as well.According to OpenRPG’s timestamps, the boss “dialogue” started at 9:25 pm. The boss fight actually started at 9:51 pm (I wasted four minutes writing the start of combat cut), and the battle ended at 11:13 pm. I only went through five rounds (the last one didn’t really count). And this was the first boss.I’m not too sure what to do apart from starting earlier. This might be because we’re doing online gaming. I suppose we could do this over Teamspeak or something and use OpenRPG to do dice rolls, but you can’t LOG Teamspeak (well, you can, but not in a way that’s postable on the wiki).

Besides, I haven’t done face-to-face gaming in a very, very long time, and I’d be scared. ^^;

Anyways, log posted.

I don’t even know why I’m blogging this. It’s really just stuff that should be posted in the Wiki, and it’s just GMly muses, so… God, I don’t know, I might make this private.

No spoilers here, by the way. I’m being careful.

Thinking about what’s going to happen tonight in Ys: Rebirth made me wonder if Logan’s going to manifest; I was joking thinking that Tabar might think that Logan’s related to the Goddesses.

Which brought up the question: what ARE the Goddesses? Canon generally states that they only held power over the area around Esteria, and, well, Ys.

Theory 1: the Goddesses are actually Eldeen?

Over at We Love Falcom, it says that Eldeel was the last of the Eldeen (God, Falcom, why couldn’t you come up with different names?) and that all the other Eldeen got corrupted by the power of the Tribe of Darkness. This suggests that the Eldeen are prone to corruption (power-hungry?). In which case, if the Goddesses are Eldeen, why didn’t they get corrupted? Or is the use of the Black pearl a manifestation of this corruption? For that matter, why are they eternal?

Let me back up for a second. If Eldeel was the last of the Eldeen, why did Ernst have wings? They imply that he was perfectly human, but the Black Sword Almarion, which is quite possibly an Eldeen creation, made him manifest wings.

Three possibilities here are:

  • Eldeel was the last one, in which case Logan shouldn’t even exist (oops)
  • There are other Eldeen out there (like Ernst) who possibly still inhabit the New World (AKA America), in which case Eldeel was full of shit (heh)
  • Logan isn’t actually Eldeen (er…)

For the record, I don’t like Option 1. Option 3 would be plottastic, but the Black Pearl already declared that Logan was Eldeen… unless maybe the Black Pearl is full of shit and only THINKS that Logan is Eldeen.

Hrm. I’ll need to sleep on that. Don’t think it’d work, though.

Let’s throw a new theory into the ring:

Theory 2: the Goddesses held sway over the entire world, probably even creating it. they created the Eldeen first, in their image; however, the Eldeen felt that they were just as powerful as the Goddesses, and some twisted their power in order to overthrow the Goddesses. The corrupted ones became the Tribe of Darkness, who eventually died out thanks to the efforts of the Goddesses and Adol. Those who were left died out or went crazy (i.e. Eldeel).

This theory’s strange in that it doesn’t explain a few things, like why the Tribe of Darkness only concentrated on Ys and not the ruins in the Vortex of Canaan (though this was retconned in Ys VI). It CAN work, but why are the Goddesses focusing only on Esteria?

Oh yeah, that’s because:

Theory 3: there are more Goddesses than Feena and Lair.

I forgot that Ys VI has Alma; the people in the Vortex of Canaan worshipped her, and the inhabitants there come from both the New World and Europa.

So based on this information, I would suggest that the Eldeen are tied to Alma in some fashion…

Theory 4: Alma created the races on the New World; Feena and Lair created humanity. We could insert stuff here from Theory 2 about the Eldeen being corrupted, or it’s possible that Alma created a flawed version of humanity that just didn’t work out, and they eventually became the Tribe of Darkness.

Ooh, I like that one.

So in which case, the Eldeen, or what’s left of them, would still be worshipping Alma; would the Goddesses’ powers even work on them?

Hmm. Hmmm.

I’ll end this post with that thought. ^^
