Sorry for skipping Day 7, but it’s probably better that I didn’t blog yesterday, because I was Angsty McAngsterston. Actually, I was still angsty today, but more on that later.
Yesterday, I tried to go to Starbucks to get some writing in, but the place was packed as usual. I came back at 5:15 when it was quieter, and I was completely stonewalled and could only write about 400 words before Sky got there. At home, the remainder of the words were like pulling teeth, and I barely got my word count in.
Today was much of the same. I tried starting on Over My Head, given that I had played a lot of WoW after last night’s writing, but… well, it’s not a happy story and I could only get one scene in before I blehed out. Word wars weren’t helping at all (and the people couldn’t time straight in wrimowars while I was in there).
I then poked at Electric Parade some more, and I got to a part where I had a few possibilities on how to write the scene. I really couldn’t decide, and I was about to send an MSN message to everyone asking their opinion when I thought, “Wait, why don’t I write all three?”
So I turned that section into a lame version of a “Choose Your Own Adventure”.
That opened up a FOUNTAIN of inspiration. I wouldn’t normally do this, but this is Unbound, so crack is allowed. I managed to get three parts done, and I got an entire day ahead. For those of you playing at home, this means that I’m past the stalling point I was at during last year’s NaNo.
The following excerpt has spoilers in it (sorta), but it’s definitely worth reading.
From: Electric Parade (Zack Dawson, Unbound)
CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE!
Zack Dawson, our intrepid hero from the hit series Unbound, has disappeared without a trace! With his cell phone dead and his psychic powers on the fritz, he has no way of contacting his stalwart companions who are worrying about him at this very moment!
Because the author of this little adventure is completely ambivalent on how to proceed with the story, it is up to you, dear reader, to decide how the three psi users will reunite!
Reader interaction in this NaNo novel? It’s more likely than you think! Your choices are…
“¢ Rane uses his connections from when he was an eco- terrorist (a term that Zack still laughs at even today, much to Rane’s despair) and somehow acquires a psychic tracking device that will hone in on Zack’s location…… start reading at paragraph xx.
“¢ So boing! A Mr. Saturn walks into Ralphie’s, and after ordering a Hashtastic Skillet, says that he’s been looking for the two and can take them to Saturn Valley, zoom!…… start reading at paragraph xx.
“¢ Zack actually thinks smart for once and shamelessly rips off a game in the same franchise as the inspiration for this series and sends a carrier pigeon with a map and directions on how to find him, and it somehow manages to find Deed and Rane in the Ralphie’s due to completely unrealistic and improbable plot device…… start reading at paragraph xx.
Or, if you want to read the three possibilities without paying attention to story flow and make the author cry, read starting the next paragraph.
