Warning: Reading this story may infuriate you and make you hate me. If you have a jealous streak like I do, I highly recommend that you stop reading now.
There’s a new item in FFXI called Kupofried’s Ring. It’s basically a ring with 10 11 charges (one hour between uses) that gives you a massive double-experience bonus that lasts for 24 hours of gameplay (up to a limit of 6000 bonus exp). Considering that it’s still a pain in the neck to level in this game, this experience bonus is HUGE.
The catch is that to get this ring, you need to be in the right place at the right time.
Every week or so (give or take 18 hours), there are 11 Dragonballs Mog Tablets that disperse all over the non-expansion areas (except the Zilart ones). When all 11 tablets are gathered together, everyone can summon Shenlong gets three “kupowers” for the entire week when they’re in these non-expansion areas that range from getting more treasure to being able to move really fast.
Unfortunately, these tablets are a bitch to find. Needless to say that some people cheat and use a not-so-legal program to find the position of the tablets; others (hi) go nuts looking for them the minute they pop out. Some even trip into them randomly while going out of town. In any case, the tablets generally all get found in a period of 20 minutes.
Individuals who find a Mog Tablet and bring it back to the Explorer Moogle in Ru’Lude Gardens can get said Kupofried’s Ring as well as an item specific to the type of tablet found (hope, charity, courage, etc.).
Karm had found a Mog tablet COMPLETELY BY ACCIDENT a few months ago while heading out from Jeuno. I essentially had a hissy fit and starting crying that we were never going to be able to stay on par together anymore (even though level sync is alive and well) and I generally had a hissy jealous fit that ended with Karm feeling like shit and me crying my eyes out. Not my proudest moment. My jealousy is COMPLETELY irrational, and I don’t know why I feel it — it’s something I’m working to figure out, trust me.
The end result was Karm swearing that she wouldn’t use it until I got one. Considering that there’s usually 2000 people logged in at a time when the tablets go out, and they could go out at ANY time, it didn’t seem likely I’d get one.
Anyays, I had just logged out when one of the tablets was found, and I rushed back in to try to look for one. Myrna (and Anrym) joined in as soon as she was done with Chocobo Hot and Cold, and she looked in Jugner while Karm and I combed Batallia (same region). The reason why we were in the same region is because we have a little thing called a Nexus Cape that can teleport the user to their party leader as long as they’re in the same region.
Long story short, Myrna found the tablet and told me to warp to her. I did so… and I got it.

Thank you, Myrna.
Anyways, I went to Ru’Lude and turned in the Tablet. However, the game still likes to make fun of me…

…
Karm has a full wedding set from when we got married, and Myrna’s planning on having a wedding in-game, so I gave it to her. (Totally not a fair trade, though.)
Anyways, so I have a Kuporing.
Now what?
I have DRG 51 (need 54 to catch up to Ire), BLU 25 (need 37), SAM 14 (need 37), WAR 28 (need 37), THF 26 (want 37), and NIN 26 (want 37, 57 ideally). I could use the ring to level any combination of these jobs. However…
- Jobs from 25-30 can be done with worms in Gustaberg (S), and since the exp is so delicious, I’d be hindering the party if I gain faster exp. if they’re synced to me. That eliminates BLU, WAR, THF and NIN.
- It’d be logical to use it to get DRG 51->54, especially since 51-53 is a bitch and a half.
- It’d also be logical to use it to get SAM 20->25 (when I get 20) since it’s a rough patch.
- I could use it on merits, but it almost seems like a waste.
Karm, on her part, is planning on using the ring to get BLM 40-> 54 to catch up to Ire and I. (I think, anyways.)
Anyways, so that’s that. I have a Kupofried Ring. Yay. Now I can stop obsessing. Jealousy is a horrible thing.
