I really dislike making these big long mashup posts, but at the same time, it seems to work well for me. Divided in multiple parts because I have a headache. (See below.)
Writing:
Sorry about the writing stuff being here and not in That Other Blog of Mine, but I might as well post it here. Apologies if this offends your senses.
I started editing Exodus (10 pages in, woop woop), but I haven’t posted anything as of yet. I’m really not “feeling” the editing process but I’m still kicking myself for not having edited CoaSR Vol. 2. Actually, I know why I haven’t edited the second yet — it’s not DONE. I never ended up finishing Ebb and Flow, and the Ys: Rebirth story seemed like a tacked-on stalling tactic. I could delete them, but I’d end up with a pretty thin book, and it wouldn’t really be the novel I wrote during NaNoWriMo 2008.
Heath:
Ho, am I not doing well in that department. I did something stupid and hadn’t eaten supper the night of March 16, and everything went downhill from there. Due to various events, I went into hypoglycemic shock on the 19th, and I still haven’t recovered from it.
It used to be that I had to eat every couple of hours without fail in order to get through the day. In the last couple of years, I managed to bring myself back to “normal” levels, though snacks were still an important part of my day. Now I’m pretty much back to how I was before, and I’m getting tons of headaches and such if I even wait five minutes to eat past my “time”.
I’m watching what I’m eating right now… stress isn’t helping at all at the moment, so I have to deal with that first before I can get back on track.
I’m getting my hair cut tomorrow. </girl> I tried to grow out my hair, but I’ve finally had enough and I’m going back to my old hair style (not the crazy short one). Hopefully it’ll still look okay.
Health and Exercise
For various reasons, I didn’t eat supper on Tuesday night, and now I’m really paying the price. My blood sugar has been crashing left and right, and this is exacerbated by the fact that I drank a Coke on Wednesday and Thursday to stay awake. Now I randomly start shaking and feeling faint… I’ll be okay once I get back on track, but until then…
Video Games
Before we begin, I’ll answer a question that’s been posed a number of times: no, I’m not interested in Final Fantasy XIII. I won’t get into it because the fanboys will come out of the woodwork and attempt to rip me a new one, but suffice to say that I’m treating the game with as much contempt I have for FFVII.
We bought a shiny new PSP 3000 for Sky because his old one was in “limbo” because we’d put custom firmware on it. He wanted quite a few games from PSN, so he got the new one while I inherited his old one, which I immediately bricked upgraded to the newest custom firmware I could find. I’m looking forward to putting some of my older PSX games on there, like Legend of Mana and Threads of Fate Dewprism. I managed to get Ys Seven working after an hour and a half. Nice knowing you guys, by the way! Actually, I can’t even throw myself into that because of…
Final Fantasy XI
There’s a weapon in the game called Seveneyes. Readers of that Other Blog of Mine who’ve read my piece of crap NaNo will know that I gave the weapon an important role in the story.
For reasons that I can’t understand, I WANT that weapon. It drops off an NM that, while we can (eventually) kill, is almost impossible to claim. There’s an HNMLS that camps it regularily and that sells the drop for 3 million gil — a reasonable sum, in my honest opinion. Problem is that with the patch looming, I need to make the money FAST so that I can still get it.
I’m at 2.1-something million gil (I think) out of 3 million. Hoping to get that really soon. Most of the linkshell is helping me in this endeavour, for which I feel like an utter TOOL. I’m incredibly grateful for their help, though.
Back to Ys
So yes, once I’m comfy with my money in FFXI, I’m going to get my Ys on. I also unfortunately discovered that Ys I&II Chronicles is PSP-only. Not sure if I want either… I’m fond of try before you buy, so I’ll see how Ys Seven measures up, and it’ll help me decide if I want to go through the trouble of another Falcom order.
The stereo in my car has a USB port and for the longest time, I’ve had the same six or so albums on rotation in there. I got sick of it, so I grabbed another USB stick (since I keep the main one in the car all the time) and tossed 17 hours of hand-picked music on there (and there are some albums I haven’t even gone through yet). I’m listening to the playlist right now and I haven’t felt the need to skip a single track, so yay for me!
Health and Exercise
I’m feeling stressed, tired, and snappy. Something’s definitely up. I’ve been trying to get a good workout in for the last week, but there’s always been a factor in the gym that’s prevented me from going (that I won’t discuss here).
Video Games
I’ve been watching Sky play Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time, and he finally managed to finish it last night. I stink at these games, but it was very entertaining to watch. The ending is kinda sad, but it’s worthy, and it leaves an opening for another sequel.
I’ve been bit by the Ys bug again, and so I’ve been trying to reinstall the ones I have on my system (Windows 7). These are Japanese games, so I have to use Applocale to trick them into thinking I’m running a Japanese system.
Ys Origin: Installed flawlessly, loads up like a dream and at full FPS at 1680 x 1050 with all effects on. Haven’t tried my old saves yet, but I’ll likely restart anyways.
Ys I and II Complete: Installed fine. English patch for Ys I won’t work on my version (Vista) of the game, and the general impression from the Ys community is that you’re not worth helping if you have Vista or Windows 7. Great. Anyways, I tried downgrading the game to 1.07, and the patch installs, but when I start the game, it completely bombs my system (turns my second screen to 640 x 480 4 bit colour) and the game runs at 15 fps. And after reinstalling, I found out that it does this whether I have the English patch or not, on both games.
Likely the reason I’m having trouble is that it doesn’t use the YsO/YsF/YsVI configuration engine. I’ll fight with it a bit more, but I’m tempted to get Ys II&II Chronicle to see if it’ll work better (since I can’t play in English anyways)… Or I can just suck it up and play the TG-16 version, or the DS version…
Ys – The Oath in Felghana: Installed flawlessly but bombed on startup. After a bit of experimenting, I found out that the only way I can run it is to install the English patch (how ironic) and to run in it Windows XP Service Pack 2 mode, because Applocale crashes when it tries to run it. Anyways, got it to work, but Engrish-onry. Sigh. Anyways, runs at 1680 x 1050, haven’t tried actually playing.
Ys VI – The Ark of Napishtim: Haven’t tried. Given I don’t have the Vista version, though, I’m not expecting being able to get this puppy to run. I’ll likely order this along with YsCh (don’t know the official abbreviation for this) if I make a Falcom order.
Oh, and if you haven’t watched it yet, please enjoy the most awesome game opening in existence from 1989:
Yes, I know the English Lilia speech by heart. (“Are you alright? … Me? I am Lilia, from Rance village.” ) I’m working on the Japanese one. Shut up.
And for comparison’s sake, here’s the current version of the opening:
Final Fantasy XI
After a lot of blood, sweat and tears, I got Ithan-Yuran to WHM 30, which means I was able to unlock SCH on him! Now the real fun starts!… after I get him to SCH 10, because SCH 1-10 is like pulling teeth, and this is WITH a PL.
Karm and I are thinking of trioing DRG/SCH/SMN, so if we do this, it’ll be absolutely awesome.
I got DRK to 33 (ugh), so 4 more levels until I get Stun and I can put the job down. DRG’s still at 62, and I haven’t gotten a merit on SCH in a very long time…
In other news, I’m broke in-game again and ENMs aren’t delivering. Now that I have the Chef’s Ring, though, I can look into making Coeurl Subs for money…
Roleplaying
I’m trying to figure out how to make a post regarding Carnelian on That Other Blog of Mine without sounding like a creepy deviant. I’m hoping to manage today.
It was a very short break, but I can happily say that it did me a load of good.
A few of my friends take internet breaks, but I’d never taken one myself. I’ll freely admit that I’m tied to the hip to the world wide web, and I actually get agitated if I’m not at the computer at 7:30 PM playing video games.
The break actually started late Monday night. On Tuesday, I logged in at 6:30 PM for Dynamis and logged out immediately afterwards (it was a short one). On Wednesday, I found myself going through withdrawal (!!!), and I basically had to sit away from the computer so I could stop myself from logging in.
Anyways, here are some things I’ve done over the last few days that I didn’t blog or tweet about:
Reread all of Dragon Ball (I’m talking the whole 42-volume series that includes Dragon Ball Z)
Started editing my NaNoWriMo novel
Finished rolling up a character for Sky’s solo campaign for me
Started playing in said campaign (I’ll probably have an entry on That Other Blog of Mine for that)
Bought flooring for the kitchen and library, finally
Bought a new computer chair because my ass wore down the padding, again (this one better last…)
Did some research on Drupal (this was the only “internet” thing I did, really)
Cleaned my desk (this is an accomplishment, trust me)
Cleaned out my download directory (ditto)
It doesn’t sound like much, but keep in mind that on a normal weekday, I play FFXI from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM (and sometimes, I log in even earlier). Yeah, it’s time to scale back.
So anyways, I’m back. (I’ll spare you the Digimon Revival quote.)
I was a mindless consumer this week, as I had/wanted a lot of things to buy:
Both packs of Swordmage D&D Power Cards (yeah, I’m in waaaay deep). It’s good to be able to pull out eight or so cards and be able to see all my abilities at a glance instead of having to flip through two books.
Ultra-fine sharpies, because I need to write in errata for said cards. *sigh*
Fairy Tail volume 9 (8? 9?), which I haven’t finished reading because it looks like filler.
Girl Genius volume 8, because we need more sparkiness in our lives.
A new printer, because the back roller died on my poor HP Photosmart 8250. I was skeptical that a $170 printer could do the job of a $275 printer, but it’s working just fine. My old one lasted me six years, so I hope I get that much life out of this. It was also incredibly simple to set up.
Two monitor stands, because for the last year or so, they were balanced on top of yoga blocks. I’m serious.
A new chair. They never seem to break down on me, but the seat padding invariably wears after a year or so and I feel the hardware through the seat. I’ve now bought the same chair that Sky has, since it’s survived him for this long; it’s got adjustable lumbar support, and it goes up way higher than my old one, which is good (my feet will dangle regardless).
Sky made home-made pizza crust yesterday, so I enjoyed a healthy pizza and I have leftovers for lunch.
About two weeks ago, I had the worst lactose reaction I’d ever had in my lifetime (to the point that I went into shock). I’m being extremely careful with dairy now, but I have no idea why it was that bad.
I can’t seem to find a brand of soy milk that I like. I tried So Good and Silk, and they both had a really weird aftertaste to them that didn’t seem right. And the flavoured stuff is absolutely disgusting (I nearly hurled with one single glass of the strawberry stuff).
I got my eyes checked a couple of weeks ago, and sure enough, I needed a new prescription (and I was getting headaches). It took me quite a bit of time to find another pair of frames that didn’t look like ass on me, but I did… and they look almost the same as my old ones. Heh.
My blood sugar is yo-yoing like crazy. I had an unofficial A1c test done and I’m at a healthy 5.1%, but I get voracious cravings for sugar and I get headaches when I don’t have any.
In related news, I’m suffering from caffeine withdrawal. Why did I pick November to wean myself off of it?
Perhaps because of the lack of caffeine, but the time change is completely destroying me this year.
Pets
Eris and Whisper were starting to refuse the wet food, so I bought a bag of the vet dry food and they liked it tons. I started getting lax in administering Eris’ laxative since she seemed to be doing so well, but we got a rude awakening when she got massively sick two Sundays ago.
Long story short, she had to get a few enemas. The good news is that she cleared up shortly afterwards, but now we’re watching her like a hawk.
The side effect to that is that Whisper gets hungry faster, and he lets us know VOCALLY at 4:00 am. The only solution we’ve found is to feed the cats three times per day instead of two, and it seems to be working well. Now we just need to get Eris to stop clawing the walls at 4:30 am…
Writing
NaNoWriMo is going well. I won’t talk about it here as I apparently annoy some people with my writing efforts, but you can see all the details on That Other Blog of Mine.
I Hate Computers
Okay. Picture this, if you have a vivid imagination. A version of Windows Vista that’s fast. That doesn’t blue screen. That has compatible drivers for even the most obscure things.
That’s Windows 7.
That said, it’s working quite well for me. I hit a few snags along the way (some of which I’ll talk about in the FFXI post), but things seem to be clearing up now.
I also treated myself to more RAM, and I now have 8 GB. Photoshop doesn’t load any faster.
