In case you didn’t know, I’m responsible for posting the logs for all games into AlcedeaWiki. It’s something I volunteered to do a long time ago and that just stuck with me.

I’ve been behind for a long while, however, and the whole thing is stressing me out more than it should. I need to fully edit (correct typos, remove OOC and whispers, reorder lines) logs for the following games:

  • Chrono Crisis (5 logs)

  • Digimon Revival (1 1/2 logs)
  • Spirit of Mana (whatever’s left)
  • Unbound (3 5 logs)
  • Ys: Rebirth (3 logs?)

And that’s just the new stuff. Old stuff includes:

  • Digimon Adventure RPG (12 logs?)

  • Final Fantasy IX Gaiden (everything, over 50 logs)
  • Legacy of Mana (everything)
  • Reflection of Mana (everything, over 100 logs)
  • Kingdom Hearts (4 logs)
  • Wild ARMs RPG (12 logs)

I’m overwhelmed!

A typical log edit includes:

  • Running the file through a custom parser to double-space all the lines

  • Removing everything before and after the session in question (and looking for stuff beyond the log, as they cut off at midnight)
  • Removing all whispers (search for “whisper”) and OOC comments (search for brackets, does not work with games with a system)
  • Fixing typos (search for “quarter”, “chainsaw” and “argh”) and reordering lines
  • Finding all the section breaks (<hr>) and removing the names in front of them
  • If it’s one of Sky’s logs, removing all the “**” that OpenRPG puts in (for Hunter, I don’t as he uses them to start descriptions)
  • Rereading the log to make sure the above was done correctly
  • Creating the page in the wiki, pasting the contents of the log, and associating the proper category

All that takes about 20 minutes per log. Ouch.

I don’t know why I take this task so seriously, but there we have it. If anyone can think of an easier way to do this, I’m all ears…

Given that I still had to deal with my computer being special this weekend (see that other blog of mine for the ongoing saga), I found that I could either write or edit roleplaying logs. Given that I took a good, hard look and found that I have eighteen logs to edit (some dating from December 2007!), I decided to chip at the backlog.

Unfortunately, it takes me 15-20 minutes to edit each log, and that’s if I don’t have to pull anything fancy like change tenses and such. 18 x 15 minutes = 4.5 hours, so this is going to take me a while.

I decided to do the “short” logs tonight. The ones I have left are epic-like.

So for your reading pleasure…

Unbound

Unbound is a solo game Sky started running for me when I expressed an interest in playing a character with psi abilities. What’s weird is that I’ve never played any of the Earthbound games, English or otherwise.

Never suggest enemies to him, though. I had it coming. >.<

Next logs will be Chrono Crisis, Digimon Revival, and Spirit of Mana, though not necessarily in that order.

Because Hunter’s here, we’ve been roleplaying… well, I wouldn’t say a lot, since it’s hard to do our normal taunting online when he’s, well, here, but we’ve been roleplaying. :P

Because I’m insane, we went on a Digimon Revival marathon for the last bit, and I’ve posted logs for Episode 7 and Episode 8 on the wiki.

(BTW, am I talking to myself when I post here? I just wonder if anyone reads these aside from me. Heh.)

Fricking Lucas. I knew Hunter was bringing him back, but I didn’t think it’d be that soon! #$%^&* But Nezumimon Digivolved! YEAH!

I’m actually looking for other places to roleplay… not having a local gaming group means that I have to rely on people online to get my fix (maybe I do have MPD…) I’m going to look into journal games, but I’m a total newb with those, and i’m used to a certain style of roleplaying that I don’t think is compatible with everyone else…

Also, I hear that Hunter’s planning to run Persona Gaiden 2 as a game on the board… that’ll be good, and we might be able to get some new blood into the fold. If you’re interested, you know who to contact…

I’ve posted quite a bit to the wiki in recent times. Here’s some highlights of what’s new and exciting.

Digimon Adventure RPG

  • I’m slowly posting the logs — I’m up to Log #9 out of 21. I’m having issues with a few of them due to formatting. #10 might take a while.

Digimon Revival

  • On the other hand, I’m up to date with DRev. We even have an omake for your spoilerific enjoyment, but do keep in mind that this spoils Gina and Kevin’s Digisouls.

Persona Gaiden

Well, did a bit of work on Ys: Rebirth tonight. I haven’t been able to run so far this week due to real life kicking all our asses, but I’ve been able to ponder character development.

I’m one log behind on posting. I needed to use an Irish accent for Brendan, and I don’t think I did it too well so I want to take the time to revise all his lines.

Ys: Rebirth:

For the curious, Book 3 isn’t starting until they actually set sail, so I estimate that it’ll be a few more chapters yet (sorry, long book).

Also:

I’m trying out character relations in this series. It’s entirely useless, but if someone wants to make one of those big-ass relation charts like in video games, be my guest.

I really had fun playing Sierta. My favourite scene so far in the entire series is the one where Sierta drinks to attempt to wake up. (It’s the third scene down.) It’s really making me want to play a bard somewhere.

As a side note, I’m volunteering to be a guinea pig and upgrade my installation to 2.3 to see what all the fuss is about. Expect broken things this weekend. (However, if things are too broken, I’m just restoring my installation.)
